…filled with new experiences and exciting glimpses into the work of technical drafters, accountants and construction managers was had by the three girls who had accepted the invitation by EDMUND WEIS® GmbH & Co KG to spend »Girls Day 2011« with the company.

Project and training manager Ralf Pennekamp and technical managing director Manfred Lehrke welcomed the girls. After a short tour of the WEIS house, the girls were invited to take a look at the work in the individual divisions of EDMUND WEIS® GmbH & Co KG: calculation, accounting, purchasing, and the engineering office. Among the most interesting highlights was an introduction of the CAD draft program and its possibilities, presented by the technical drafters. Afterwards, the three »trainees for a day« visited the site of a customer project and saw how these drafts are turned into reality on a construction site.

Ralf Pennekamp gave a lively explanation of the individual trades and the details of construction. Meeting deadlines, discussing construction plans, coordinating the trades, complying with occupational safety regulations – in the end, the three girls had been given a good overview of the complex everyday work routines of a project manager.

But of course, there was also fun to be had: One highlight of the "work trip" was a ride to the 7 m high hall ceiling on a hoisting platform. After an interesting day under the excellent guidance of training manager Ralf Pennekamp, the girls’ interest for a career in the technical field was stoked. Maybe we can welcome some of them as real trainees in about four years.
